Why Your Notion Workspace Is Still a Mess (And How to Fix It)

Three common mistakes that make Notion overwhelming — and the simple fixes that turn it into a productivity powerhouse.

You've watched the YouTube tutorials, installed 15 widgets, and your sidebar still looks like a junk drawer. Here's the truth: most Notion workspaces fail because of three mistakes. First, too many databases with no relations — you end up retyping the same info. Second, over-nesting pages five layers deep. Third, trying to replicate every app inside Notion.

The fix is brutal simplification. Start by asking: what's the one thing I need to see every day? Put that on your homepage. Use linked databases to pull in only what's relevant. And please, delete that 'Second Brain' template you copied and never used.

I learned this the hard way after rebuilding my workspace four times. My templates are built on this principle: one homepage, three core databases, and no more than two clicks to anything important.
