Behind the Scenes: Building a Notion Template That Actually Sells

What I learned from launching four templates — including the one that hit $10k in sales.

I launched my first Notion template with zero audience and made $47. My fourth template did $10k in the first month. The difference wasn't marketing — it was the product. Here's what I learned.

First, solve a specific pain point. 'Productivity system' is too vague. 'Client onboarding for freelance designers' is specific. Second, include a quick-start guide inside the template — not a separate PDF. New users want to open and go. Third, test with real people before launch. I gave my template to five freelancers, watched them use it, and fixed the confusing parts.

Finally, price based on value, not hours. My $47 template took 10 hours to build. My $97 template took 15 hours. The price increase came because it saved users more time. If you're building templates, focus on the outcome, not the effort.
